A section of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to demand that right-back Mikael Lustig is sold and replaced in the January transfer window after his poor performance against Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday.

Lustig, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season, but some Hoops fans cannot wait that long to see him go with one calling for his deal to be “terminated”, while another says that he needs to be binned.

Lustig is like part of the furniture at Parkhead, but funnily enough, the actual furniture would probably do a better job of defending than he has in the last couple of seasons. Last term, the Sweden international was a liability in most of his 47 appearances across all competitions and it was so obvious that Brendan Rodgers needed to replace him in the summer window. Summer came and went but Rodgers failed to sign a new right-back and even though Cristian Gamboa showed promising signs earlier in the campaign, the Costa Rican is still overlooked to everyone’s shock. Now, after the 3-1 defeat in Austria on Thursday, it looks as though the majority of the Celtic support has turned on the Swedish mainstay and demand that he is offloaded or, at the very least, replaced in January. You cannot blame them because the Hoops are going backwards at a worrying rate of knots.
