Celtic got off to the best possible start in Austria tonight, taking the lead against Red Bull Salzburg in the second minute through striker Odsonne Edouard.

And there was another player who really caught the eye of Celtic fans tonight – free signing Youssouf Mulumbu.

He arrived at the end of August as a free agent after leaving Kilmarnock and the 31-year-old looked the part tonight in midfield – he was strong, decisive and didn’t look out of place at this level at all.

It left Celtic fans flocking onto Twitter to regale him as a hero, with one fan saying he was better than Paul Pogba.

That’s something that Jose Mourinho might agree with too.

Here are the best reactions from Celtic fans to Mulumbu’s start to the game:

OPINION

This was a great 45 minutes by Celtic in a game that was supposed to be a really tough test for them. Red Bull Salzburg are running away with the Austrian Bundesliga and have already beaten sister side Red Bull Leipzig from Germany. Celtic have coped without Scott Brown in midfield brilliantly and Mulumbu has to take a lot of the credit for that. He’s looking like an absolute bargain after Rodgers picked him up for free and has proved he can definitely play at this level. In fact he’s just what Celtic need in this sort of match and should have nailed his place in the first-team, for Europa matches at the very least. Very impressive. Salzburg came on strong in the latter part of the first-half, but Celtic are holding out. And if they can keep this up in the second-half they’ve got a really good chance of flying back to Glasgow with all three points, which would make them big favourites to progress past the group stage.
