By the time face Brighton in their next fixture, it will be almost Halloween and Rafa Benitez’s side will still be without a win in all competitions.

It has been a tough start to the campaign for the Magpies but their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United did offer plenty of positives about their upcoming run of games against the likes of Brighton, who travel to St James’ Park on October 20, Southampton, Watford, Bournemouth and Burnley.

One thing that can be learned from the defeat at Old Trafford is that Mohamed Diame needs to be axed after such a poor display and luckily, Benitez has the perfect replacement in Ki Sung-Yueng who he must unleash in the coming weeks.

The Toon Army has not seen much of Ki, 29, since he was signed in the summer on a free transfer after he was released by Swansea.

He has made just three appearances in all competitions against Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, but since then he has been left out of three matchday squads for no apparent reason.

Ki is currently away on international duty with South Korea, so he is definitely fit enough to play.

The former Swansea ace did offer in his handful of appearances that he can impress the Magpies faithful, so Benitez really must start to play him more to get the fans of their seats and finally fall back in love with the football that this team plays.

If you look at the table and the odds at the moment, Newcastle are in a lot of trouble and a third relegation from the Premier League is looking more and more of a possibility this season.

But if Benitez puts his faith in Ki then surely the side’s performances will improve and in this good run of fixtures, the Magpies can soar up the Premier League table and away from any kind of danger.
