Football fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter after Darren Bent insisted he wants to move to Rangers.

The former England international told the Jim White Show on talkSPORT on Tuesday that is eyeing a transfer north of the border after being asked his interest in linking up with Steven Gerrard’s side.

“100 per cent,” Bent told talkSPORT. “You’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in football in Rangers. To get the opportunity to go up there and play – definitely.”

Supporters of Rangers and other clubs were split on whether Steven Gerrard’s former teammate would be a good signing.

COMMENTARY:

Bent has a track record that demands respect, although it is no surprise that some do not believe he is the answer to Rangers’ need for more firepower. The 12-times England international is without a club after severing his ties with Derby County in the summer and turns 35 in January. That said, the Ibrox giants landed Gareth McAuley earlier this month and he has already blown out 38 candles on his birthday cake. Bent might be past his blistering best, but he has showed since dropping from the Premier League to the Championship that he still has the eye for goal that brought him 106 goals from 277 top-flight appearances. In England’s second tier, he has been even more prolific, although he had a season to forget in 2017-18 that was wrecked by a serious hamstring injury and in which he scored just two goals from 17 matches. Rangers should forget the keyboard warriors and seriously investigate Bent’s availability.
