A section of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to call for James McCarthy to be reinstated in the team when he is recovered from injury.
The official Everton Twitter account has hailed the anniversary of the Republic of Ireland international joining the club, which took place on deadline day five years ago.

McCarthy is working his way back from a double leg break and many Everton supporters are eager to see him back in action for the first team.

There is a lot of love on social media from Everton fans for McCarthy, who is something of a forgotten man after being out of action since January. He has returned to light training and is getting closer to a return to football, but the 27-year-old will need to dislodge the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies from the team if he is to be reinstated in his favourite central midfield role. McCarthy has suffered plenty of injuries during his five years at Goodison, but many supporters clearly admire his commitment and battling qualities, and believe he is deserving of a prime role when he is fit and firing. Everton’s central midfielders have begun the season in reasonable fettle, with Gueye the outstanding performer, but there is a need for more impetus from such a key position. There is hope that McCarthy can provide it sooner rather than later.
