Former Aston Villa star Stan Collymore has delivered a clear-cut verdict on the future of manager Steve Bruce, calling for the 57-year-old to be sacked as he described him as ‘yesterday’s manager.’

Bruce has come under fire from a large section of the Villa faithful over the past year or so, with many believing he is the wrong man to take the club back to the Premier League.

Outspoken pundit Collymore has now added his voice to the debate in a tweet that makes his opinion very clear, replying to a fan with a ten-word rant about Bruce’s future.

“Out. Big wages, good talent, p*** poor consistency. Yesterday’s manager,” said Collymore.

OPINION

This is a pretty clear-cut and emphatic verdict on Bruce from Collymore, who is an outspoken pundit but clearly still loves the club from his days at Villa Park. He is a pundit whom many Villa fans look to and listen to, and these thoughts will echo those of a large section of supporters who want to see Bruce leave the club. It is easy to see where these fans are coming from in many ways, with Bruce not really proving that he is the man to take Villa up so far. He has had plenty of time to make his mark at the club now, and their mediocre start to the season means the pressure is starting to pile up on the 57-year-old. A good win over Rotherham in midweek eased that somewhat, but some tough upcoming fixtures will go farther to helping the club work out Bruce’s future.
