Aston Villa fans react to Birmingham points deduction

|

Birmingham City are reportedly in danger of a 12-point deduction from the EFL after they breached Financial Fair Play regulations, and some Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react.

A bombshell report in the Telegraph claims Birmingham could be hit with the huge blow this season after the EFL came to an agreement on the case this week, with the Blues said to have committed a serious breach of sustainability rules.

The newspaper report that Championship rivals have also issued complaints over the club’s decision to sign Kristian Pedersen for £2million while under a transfer embargo.

Many Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news, with some Villans seemingly finding the plight of their local rivals hilarious.

OPINION

This is the expected reaction from Villa fans to the news that their bitter rivals may be hit with a significant points deduction. However, Villa’s own issues with Financial Fair Play are well known, with Steven Bruce constantly mentioning it last season. The club were expected to balance the books somewhat with the big-money sale of midfielder Jack Grealish over the summer, but a touted move to the Premier League with Tottenham never materialised. Instead, the club’s new owners splashed out on more players after taking over from Tony Xia, and that may worry some fans. The club could still sell Grealish for big money soon to help the situation, but the damage may already be done. That being said, Birmingham did sign a player under embargo, and you can’t help but feel that is what has led to this threat of a points penalty. It will be interesting to see what happens, and whether Villa will be hit with a penalty of their own later on.
