Former Everton defender Abel Xavier has raved about new boss Marco Silva, claiming that he can raise the team’s level with his style of play.

Silva was appointed earlier this summer to replace ex-manager Sam Allardyce, and he has outlined that his style of football will go down a treat with the Toffees’ faithful.

The club’s new arrival has previously been in charge of the likes of Watford and Hull City, and Xavier is convinced that he will bring a new dimension to the team as he is a manager who has the ability to improve his players.

“Evertonians will like Marco Silva’s thinking and I am certain he will raise the team’s level. Marco is a coach who improves players and, when you watch his teams, it is clear what he is asking from them,” he told the club’s official website.

“He has had a positive influence at all his previous clubs and quickly assembled a very good squad at Everton. When you see strong players coming from Barcelona and wanting to join Everton, it says a lot about the people inside the Club.

“Everton has a lot of ambition and they can have a big season.”

OPINION

Marco Silva has had a rather good start to life as Everton manager, and has guided the team to an unbeaten start in the top flight so far, which is not bad going for a new boss. He obviously has experience of managing English teams before, but it is hard not to agree with Xavier when he comments on how Silva can raise the team’s level. Everton fans previously slammed Allardyce for his boring style of football despite the fact that they finished within the top ten last season – but that all looks set to change with the appointment of Silva. The supporters are undoubtedly craving some entertaining football, and it looks like their new boss will be able to provide that for them. He has brought in some exciting signings this summer, and it will be interesting to see how his style of football is implemented on them for the rest of the campaign.
