West Brom made a last-minute swoop for Stoke attacker Bojan Krkic on transfer deadline day, according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning that the Baggies tried to sign the 28-year-old ex-Barcelona player in the final hours of the transfer window, but were unable to agree a fee with the Potters.

It is understood that Albion looked at the £43,000-a-week (Spotrac) Stoke man after missing out on Blackburn’s Bradley Dack.

OPINION

West Brom were obviously desperate to add to their attacking midfield force before the transfer window slammed shut, but it was too little too late and they really shouldn’t have offloaded Nacer Chadli without a solid replacement lined up. The same happened with Allan Nyom as it took ages for the club to sign a replacement right-back, and even then, it was 35-year-old free agent Tyrone Mears. Overall, West Brom had a decent transfer window. They kept Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson despite a lot of media speculation, while also managing to sign Harvey Barnes and Dwight Gayle. The Black Country club has the best strike force in the Championship, but if injuries and suspensions start to become a problem, their squad could be thinned out very quickly. Bojan would have been a decent addition. He obviously has a lot of talent but just doesn’t show it enough. The ex-Barca ace would have only been a back-up to Barnes, but he still would have been a solid plan B.
