Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign one player over the summer window, and you would think that will likely see them dip into the transfer market come January.

However you try to dress it up for Spurs, there is still a huge issue for Mauricio Pochettino with regards to squad depth as he looks to mount another challenge for silverware this season.

The January transfer window will be a chance for Spurs to address the problems that will have arisen by then, and it would be a huge surprise should they not sign anyone after Christmas.

An area that has been of huge concern over the past two seasons is up front, with the club failing to find a suitable back-up or partner for star man Harry Kane.

Netherlands international Vincent Janssen was an unqualified flop, while current incumbent Fernando Llorente has also failed to make any kind of impact.

Pochettino has been using Brazilian speedster Lucas Moura in a second striker position to start this season, but Spurs are still in need of a genuine striker to provide support for Kane.

According to the Daily Mail, concerns are growing at Manchester United that Marcus Rashford is frustrated with his bench role after the first red card of his career at the weekend.

It is said that Rashford has cut an increasingly unhappy figure at Old Trafford since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, and the 20-year-old rising star has reportedly brought his role at the top-four club into question.

There is no doubt that Rashford would be the perfect candidate for Spurs to bring in up front, with the electric youngster able to play up top on his own or in a second striker role like Lucas.

While he would admittedly be on the bench to start, the working environment under Pochettino would surely suit Rashford when compared to the current situation at United, with the Argentine known for his work with young players.

Rashford would soon develop into a key player for Tottenham and the prospect of him and Kane forming a partnership in attack would be a hugely exciting one for Spurs, who would have the best strike duo in the Premier League.

The youngster would not come cheap by any means, but these are the type of signings that Tottenham must make if they are to really maintain their push to become a force domestically and in Europe.

Spurs must therefore mount an assault on United for Rashford this January, using his frustration as a weapon in their favour to lure the brilliant youngster to north London.
