Lee Wallace is likely to leave Rangers and could be offloaded in the January transfer window, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim the former Ibrox skipper “might not even see the end of the season” after slipping down the pecking order in the last 12 months culminating in his bust-up with Graeme Murty.

The Scottish Sun report that Wallace is out of contract next summer and is heading for the exit door after manager Steven Gerrard omitted him from the Europa League squad.

OPINION

The writing is surely on the wall for the lengthy Rangers career of the 31-year-old. It is virtually impossible to see Wallace surviving, given the famous dressing room row with ex-boss Murty (even though the suspension and fines were successfully appealed) and the summer signings of Borna Barisic and Jon Flanagan, both of whom have settled in well. Declan John returned to Wales and it seems inevitable that Wallace will follow him out of the exit door once he has proven his fitness after a difficult few years ravaged by injury. At his best, the 10-times Scotland international is a rampaging left-back who would walk into any team in Scotland. He may be past his peak, but there is a sense that the 6ft 1in (source: Transfermarkt) long-serving club icon and fans favourite needs to move on, especially after Gerrard failed to include him in the Europa League squad days after saying the defender was still in his plans.
