A number of Rangers fans have been left in love with a picture posted of summer signing Gareth McAuley showing him wrapped in a Gers blanket as a baby.

Taking to his own personal Twitter account, the Northern Irish veteran revealed a move to Ibrox was meant to be as he put up a picture of him very young with a blanket featuring the Rangers logo, as well as a blue, red and white scarf, with the caption: “Dreams really do come true.”

His post caught the attention of the Gers faithful on Twitter for all the right reasons, with many welcoming him ‘home’ to Ibrox as well as celebrating his affiliation with the club.

Opinion

McAuley’s capture really is the icing on the cake for the Light Blues this summer and the experienced centre back has already captured the fans’ hearts with this post. Endearing yourself to the Ibrox faithful in any way, shape or form early on is a good way to ensure you have their supports when the going gets tough, but you can be sure very few players have been wrapped up in Rangers memorabilia as a kid. It was obviously a Rangers supporting family member who had baby McAuley repping the Gers from an early age and it has obviously stuck with him to the present day. Whether his dream move will turn out to be the success that everyone at the club is hoping for remains to be seen, but with his experience of England’s top flight, much like Scott Arfield, he should have no trouble in bringing his quality to the fore. It is another great signing by Steven Gerrard, but while many of the players brought in would not have arrived without the Liverpool man at the helm, this picture proves McAuley might have always been tempted in a move to Glasgow.
