Former Celtic and England striker Chris Sutton has insisted it is crucial for the Hoops to “grind” out results when the going gets tough after seeing his old side defeat Aberdeen on Saturday.

The Hoops sunk last season’s runners up in the Premiership 1-0 courtesy of a Scott Sinclair strike, the English forward having come off the bench to replace Odsonne Edouard after his injury blow.

Delivering his immediate verdict on the clash via his personal Twitter account, Sutton said that it was a huge win for the Bhoys and that managing to win is important for them right now.

He said: “Big result for Celtic…important to grind through tough times…”

Opinion

This might be as few words as Sutton has ever had on a Celtic win but he hits the nail on the head with his brief analysis. The sign of a good team is the ability to force out a positive result no matter how things might be going on or off the pitch, and with things at Parkhead by no means going swimmingly, this is exactly what Brendan Rodgers and his side needed. Aberdeen might also have been left struggling after their high flying campaign last season but they were by no means pushovers, and the fact it was just 1-0 to the Hoops shows how competitive the division is going to be this year. A win against a side who are expected to be up in the top four once again is always going to be a good result, be it 1-0 or 5-0, and the Bhoys can head into their next clash with an air of confidence about them.
