Chris Sutton heaped more misery on Celtic after their shock 2-1 defeat against Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers’ side took the lead in the first-half through Leigh Griffiths after some calamitous defending from Killie.

They took that lead into the second-half but couldn’t hold onto it and after Kilmarnock equalised midway through the second 45 it looked like a draw was the most likely outcome.

However, there was a shock in store for Brendan Rodgers’ men as Kilmarnock scored right at the death to take all three points from the game.

On the final whistle, Chris Sutton took to Twitter to deliver his verdict and it wasn’t a pretty one.

He said that the “Celtic team are very, very ordinary this season” and added that Kilmarnock deserved all three points.

OPINION

Rotation is a part of the modern game but Celtic aren’t pulling away from the pack at the top of the table. And before this game they hadn’t beaten Kilmarnock in three games. So, Brendan Rodgers’ decision to change five players (which turned into six after Filip Benkovic was injured in the warm-up) will be questioned heavily after this latest defeat. Sutton is right as well – they’ve looked very ordinary at times this season, and deservedly dropped into the Europa League after failing to make the Champions League group stage. Rivals Rangers can take full advantage and leapfrog Celtic with a win against St Johnstone this afternoon, and it all adds up to a much more competitive Premiership season. That’s good for neutrals but it would represent a disaster for Celtic who have maybe taken their domestic dominance for granted. Bookies Paddy Power infamously paid out on a Celtic title win after one game – that might not seem like such a funny joke now.
