Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has confirmed his desperation to finish his career at Parkhead as the club confirm the attacker has signed a new four-year deal.

The Hoops hitman has spent three and a half years with the Scottish champions and has committed to new terms until 2022, as revealed on their official Twitter account and website.

Speaking about his new deal, having netted 100 goals for the club in his time in the Hoops, 5’9″ (source: Transfermarkt) Griffiths expressed his love and affection for the Parkhead outfit and insisting he would want to continue leading the line until he hangs up his boots.

He stated: “From the moment I walked in the door here, this is where I wanted to be for the rest of my life. I’ve been here for three-and-a-half years already and to sign another four-year deal is great. I can’t wait for the future.”

Opinion

Griffiths, with his century of goals, has been a great servant to the Hoops during his time at Celtic Park and considering Moussa Dembele left in a last minute exit this summer, Brendan Rodgers will be delighted to have tied down a proven goal scorer for the long-term future. It leaves the Scot and Odsonne Edouard as the future of the Bhoys up top, and their mix of experience and youth means that they have a range of qualities between the pair. Whether Griffiths will be given the chance to live out his dream of playing for Celtic until the end of his career remains to be seen, and he will have to show some extraordinary longevity to stay in the starting XI. However, he simply needs to ask what Scott Brown has been doing to elongate his career with the club, for the veteran midfielder looks as good as he ever has.
