Alan Brazil has tipped Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers for a top job in the Premier League – and predicted he will end up at West Ham or Leicester within months.

The broadcaster has boldly claimed that Rodgers could walk away from the club before the year is out, and he reckons that he would be a great candidate for a managerial post in the top flight if the opportunity came along.

Brazil says that the Hoops must be wary of the likes of Leicester City and West Ham United in the near future, as he thinks that both sets of fans are not convinced that either man is fit to remain in the hotseat for too much longer.

He says Rodgers would be tempted if one of these clubs approached him at the end of the year, especially if he is given money to spend in January.

“I reckon Brendan could walk before the turn of the year. It depends on the right opportunity coming along – that means a decent Premier League job,” he told the Sunday Post.

“If a West Ham or a Leicester City got in touch, the Hoops boss would have a big decision to make. For me, they are the two obvious clubs that Celtic should be wary of at the moment. West Ham fans aren’t convinced that Manuel Pellegrini is the man to sort their problems out.

“I also hear that Leicester fans are far from happy with how things are going under Claude Puel. If either of them came to Brendan in the next wee while and said: “We’ll give you a Premier League salary and big money to spend in January”, he would be tempted. Brendan would be a great candidate for any of them.”

OPINION

Seeming as Brendan Rodgers did not do too badly during his spell at Liverpool a while ago, Brazil is not far wrong in saying that the Celtic boss would be a great candidate for a Premier League job in the near future. He has already proven his credentials with the Reds, so there would be no reason why he could not be successful in England once again. Teams like Leicester and West Ham would snap Celtic’s arm off if the opportunity to appoint Rodgers as their manager came along – especially if managers like Pellegrini do not get the results that the board are after. Hoops’ fans will undoubtedly be hoping that he does not walk by the end of the year, but no one could blame Rodgers for being tempted by the possibility of managing in England once again. However, there is no time like the present – and he must focus on the current job in hand.
