A section of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to hail Borna Barisic for his performance for Croatia in their 1-1 draw against Portugal on Thursday night.

The Ibrox summer signing played the full 90 minutes for the World Cup finalists in the friendly in Lisbon as a late Pepe header cancelled out an early Ivan Perisic volley.

Many Rangers supporters were struck by how comfortable the left-back looked against the European Championships holders, with comments including “he is worth £25million now”.

COMMENTARY:

Little wonder that Rangers fans are so excited by Barisic’s performance for the national team last night. It will do his confidence the world of good that he has held his own against such a talented opponent who might have been Cristiano Ronaldo-less but still possess an army of top-notch attackers proven at the highest level. It was the fourth cap for the left-back, who has made a big impression for Rangers since signing from Osijek this summer in a move that ended the Ibrox career of Declan John. The early signs are that Barisic is an upgrade on John and should be a growing influence over the course of the campaign. Aged 25, he is a solid defender and hugely threatening on the overlap with his precise crosses on the run. He has also claimed his move to Rangers has helped him secured national team selection, which is a great compliment to the Glasgow giants.
