Robbie Savage was left drooling over Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele during the London club’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan on Tuesday night.

Spurs got their Champions League campaign off to a terrible start by squandering their one-goal lead right at the depth when Matias Vecino scored a last-gasp winner for the hosts.

However former Wales international Savage was particularly impressed with the performance of Dembele in the centre of the pitch, and he believes that the Tottenham midfielder deserves more credit for his ability.

“He’s got to be one of the must underrated players in the Premier League,” said Savage in his live commentary of BT Sport 3’s coverage of the match on Tuesday night.

“The way he glides with the ball, he’s strong, he can see a pass.”

OPINION

Dembele is not underrated. Everyone knows how good the Belgium international is for Tottenham and how crucial he is in the centre of their formation. Without the former Fulham ace, Spurs really do struggle and that is why it is imperative that Daniel Levy gets him tied down to a new deal before the end of the season, or if he does go, he must splash the cash on a top-quality replacement. Maybe outside of Tottenham there are people who do not rate Dembele so highly, but among the Spurs fans they know just how good he is. Dembele did well against Inter Milan, especially in the second-half. However he will be disappointed as the side crumbled to defeat in the last minutes of the game and will know that he could have done more over the 90 minutes. Spurs have now lost three games in a row for the first time during Pochettino’s reign, and hopefully he and Dembele can bounce back against Brighton this weekend.
