Wolverhampton Wanderers have been busy bees over the last couple of transfer windows in building for a push for a return to the Premier League and then preparing for their first campaign back in the top flight since 2012.

It would be fair to say that the Molineux outfit have impressed with the business that they have carried out when recruiting for new talent, with the likes of Rui Patricio, Ruben Neves and Willy Boly all arriving to play their part in their recent success – the multi-billion pound fortune of Chinese owners Fosun helping their cause immeasurably.

However, despite their ability to splash the cash, the club must also make sure they are not being taken advantage of when it comes to taking players on at Molineux – as a report from Spanish publication AS suggests.

The newspaper have revealed in their print edition some key details of recent dealings with Atletico Madrid, stating that they do not have any sort of purchase clause in Jonny’s loan deal, while also having a sell on fee in Diogo Jota’s contract, meaning they will lose a percentage of any transfer fee for the former Atletico man.

While Jonny’s arrival comes after he signed a permanent deal to join the Spanish club this summer, acting as a feeder club to the La Liga outfit is not befitting of a club holding Wolves’ aspirations, and while he might be a good player, he offers no long-term solution to the left back role.

As for Jota, Atletico were obviously aware of the potential he possesses and as such included the sell-on clause, and while there is no indication of how much they will be taking on his sale, it still harms Wolves going forward.

The Molineux side cannot allow supposed ‘bigger’ clubs to take advantage of their position – they are pushing for their own success and should build accordingly.
