With a good start on their return to the Premier League this season, Wolves fans have very little to moan about, and it appears as though the excitement building in the stands is having an effect both on the pitch and in the boardroom.

Two wins, two draws and a defeat have left Nuno Esperito Santo’s side sitting in a comfortable ninth place after their opening five games, two points ahead of the likes of Everton and Leicester City below and just a point behind Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Thing are definitely looking up for the Molineux outfit but judging by Matt Doherty’s revelation, the club are hoping that things get a lot better over the near future.

Speaking about the massively ambitious plans set out by owners the Fosun Group, he told the Express and Star: “The philosophy has changed. The training ground has changed – the new-build wasn’t there when I first came. It’s a completely different place and it’s obviously for the better.

“We’re pretty aware that they (Fosun) mean business. They’re looking for Wolves to go as high as they can as quick as we can. It’s up to us, the players that are here at the moment, to try to produce for them

“All the things that have happened have brought success eventually. And so there are good times ahead.”

It all sounds brilliantly exciting for the Wolves fans over the next couple of years – but they cannot allow excitement to build too quickly too soon, or the club could face a crisis both on and off the pitch.

The promise of good times is only going to build expectations, especially when you consider the sort of spending that has been taking place recently, but what is going to happen if those expectations are not met, be it a poor run of form or disappointing individual displays.

Many of these players have not had the fans on their backs as of yet, but being football, things can turn quickly, and the Wolves supporters will let their side know if they are not happy.

Discontent in the stands could well lead to disharmony in the dressing room, and then performances slide and results tend to take a downward spiral.

Yes, the Wolves faithful deserve their success, but they cannot let excitement take over – or they could be putting their club in jeopardy.
