Wolves striker Raul Jimenez has returned from international duty with Mexico at the request of the club, according to Proceso

The Mexican news outlet report that the 27-year-old forward left the Mexico camp at the behest of Wolves, who are preparing for the fifth game of their Premier League campaign.

It was previously reported that Jimenez had suffered an injury while away with Mexico, with Dale claiming that the hit man had suffered a minor muscle strain.

Jimenez has been a key player and ever-present for the Premier League newcomers so far, scoring once in four starts.

OPINION

This is an interesting development in the Jimenez story, with the striker reported yesterday to have returned with no mention of the club’s involvement. The suggestion seems to be that Wolves have requested his return in order to avoid further injury, but it is doubtful that he was to play any part in the clash with the United States on Tuesday anyway. Wolves are obviously keen to protect their asset, who has enjoyed a strong start to life in the Premier League, and that is understandable. Whether Jimenez will be fit enough to play a part against Burnley this weekend is another matter, and Wolves will just have to hope that the striker manages to recover quickly in the coming days. The 27-year-old has been mightily impressive for them up front, and losing him for a couple of games would be a blow for Nuno Espirito Santo as he looks to build on their first win of the season against West Ham last time out.
