Now that West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere is sidelined with an injury, one player has had to step up in his absence.

That player is Declan Rice, who replaced Wilshere on Sunday in their 3-1 win over Everton.

He is arguably one of the club’s brightest prospects, and the possibility of an uncertain future at the London Stadium is one many fans would not want to contemplate.

However, their minds may have just been put at rest, as reliable news outlet Claret and Hugh have said in a report that the Hammers are confident that they can pen Rice down to a deal and secure his future, according to one of their sources.

They will be able to extend the 6ft 1in [Transfermarkt] ace’s current deal by two years come next summer, which means there is no rush to tie him down.

After Rice’s recent performances for the club, this news will come as a huge relief to many supporters, who will be counting their lucky stars that one of their best talents is more than likely to remain at the club.

They can now issue a huge sigh of relief at this clarification of his future, as he does not look like he will be going anywhere any time soon.

There is no doubt that the 19-year-old will thrive in the absence of Wilshere after his display last weekend, and with regular first team football coming his way for the next few weeks, he is only going to get better and better.

However, despite the fact that Wilshere will eventually come back from his injury, some of the club faithful will certainly be hoping that he cements his place in the team for a long time to come.

The report reveals that the longer that Rice deliberates on signing a new deal, the more money he will be losing – so he may be inclined to pen one sooner rather than later, much to West Ham’s delight.

Fans will be also be delighted – and fingers crossed he continues to submit his consistent performances that has won him a wave of supporters.
