A section of Manchester United fans annihilated Victor Lindelof for his performance in their team’s 3-1 Premier League defeat at West Ham on Saturday.

Goals from Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnatouvic came either side of Lindelof’s 43rd minute own goal to cancel out Marcus Rashford’s adept back-heeled flick.

Many supporters crucified Lindelof for his display at the London Stadium.

COMMENTARY:

What a miserable afternoon for Lindelof, who scored an own goal, was part of an absolutely desperate United performance and then suffered the humiliation of being substituted after 57 minutes ahead of Scott McTominay, the midfielder slotted into a makeshift back three also including Chris Smalling. Jose Mourinho’s tactics were baffling and backfired massively, as the manager appeared to be making a point to the board that he was desperately unhappy with the centre-backs at his disposal. Yet, that doesn’t explain why Eric Bailly, who many supporters regard as the outstanding central defender on United’s books, was an unused substitute and did not start ahead of McTominay or Lindelof. The Sweden international will have wanted the London Stadium turf to have swallowed him up when he was hauled off. He should probably stay off social media tonight, too.
