West Ham striker Andy Carroll is making major progress in his recovery from an ankle injury and there are hopes he could be fit for the beginning of November, according to Claret and Hugh

The Hammers insider website report that Carroll has began running as he steps up his rehabilitation programme on the injury he picked up before the end of last season.

Claret and Hugh claim that the club are hopeful that the 6ft 4in giant [Transfermarkt] will be fit to face Burnley on the 3rd of November or Huddersfield on the 10th.

OPINION

This is good news for the Hammers amid their poor start to the season. Manuel Pellegrini is yet to earn a single point in the Premier League after four games, with West Ham managing to put the ball in the net just twice over those matches. Pellegrini could definitely have done with having the option of Carroll on the bench at the start of this season, and so having him back as soon as possible is key for the club going forward. Carroll does not necessarily fit in with Pellegrini’s style of play, but having such a player at your disposal is a huge weapon for any manager, no matter your philosophy. It is obviously not known what position the Hammers will be in by the time Carroll is fit, but with fixtures against teams like Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham coming up before November, the club could well be in deep trouble by then. Carroll’s reintroduction will take on even more significance should that happen, and the club will then be hoping he can stay fit for the rest of the campaign.
