West Ham United could sell Robert Snodgrass in the January transfer window despite his impressive start to the season, according to club insider Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers news site, which has extensive links inside the London Stadium, report that the eventual return of Manuel Lanzini from injury and increasing competition for midfield places is likely to push the Scot down the pecking order.

Claret and Hugh claim that such a situation may see Snodgrass leave the club in January if the right offer is tabled, with Aston Villa known to be keeping tabs on their former winger.

A source is quoted as saying: “Robert has done well and January is some way away – we will need to assess our options at that time.”

Good move for West Ham?

No.

Snodgrass has more than proved his worth to West Ham already this season, with the Scotland international making six appearances, with four starts among those.

His high work rate and pinpoint set piece delivery have been huge assets for a struggling Hammers side, and despite the incredible competition for places, he is worth a stay until the summer at least.

To sell him on now would be harsh and foolhardy, with Snodgrass having lots to offer for Manuel Pellegrini over the entierty of the season.

Likely to happen?

The source quoted seemed to suggest that an exit could be on the cards depending on the situation the club finds itself in by January.

So, if their form has improved and the season is going well, then you would think that Snodgrass could indeed leave.

However, if things are not going well then he is likely to stay.

It totally depends on what is happening and also the offers that materialise for his services.
