Tottenham will have to wait and see if there is any possibility of a u-turn being performed in contract talks with Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld after he failed to secure an exit over the summer window, according to reliable journalist Alasdair Gold.

The football.london reporter has detailed in a live question and answer on the website (15:04) that things are settled between the 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) centre back and manager Mauricio Pochettino despite their toils last season but that it is too soon to determine whether the 29-year-old will agree to sign a new deal.

It is stated that if things continue to go smoothly between the pair then there is a possibility of terms being offered and accepted.

Opinion

Things really have changed tone at Spurs over the last couple of weeks when it comes to Alderweireld, and the fans will no doubt be delighted to see him back and playing a key role in the starting XI. The experienced Belgian international is one of, if not the, best defender in north London on his day and the club will be hoping that he changes his mind about not committing to a long-term deal. Having seen the likes of Harry Kane, Davinson Sanchez and manager Pochettino tie themselves down on what are said to be lucrative deals, could it sway him into staying at Tottenham, especially if there is some big money pushed his way? That remains to be seen, but things are certainly a lot more rosy between the defender and his manager than they were six months ago. The Lilywhites will be hoping that it stays that way, for it could well turn into him being one of the next to put pen to paper.
