Tottenham Hotspur offered attacker Erik Lamela to Inter Milan in March but a deal fell through after a change in personnel at the San Siro, according to Calciomercato

The Italian outlet report that Tottenham wanted £31.4million for the Argentina international, who is said to have been keen on a return to Italy.

Calciomercato claim that the move did not materialise after Walter Sabatini left Inter and the club’s transfer policy changed before they pursued other targets in that position.

Tottenham and Inter have just faced off on the pitch in the Champions League, with the Serie A side emerging dramatic late 2-1 winners at the San Siro on Tuesday night.

Lamela currently earns £70,000-a-week at Spurs [Silly Season].

OPINION

It was widely reported that Lamela may leave Tottenham over the summer, with a return to Italy and Serie A seemingly the logical option for the winger. The Argentine has struggled with injury since his arrival in England, and has never really recreated the kind of form that saw him become a £30million player during his time at Roma. He is however loved by manager Mauricio Pochettino, so it is hard to see Tottenham actively offering up Lamela so many months before the summer window. In the end he never even came close to a Spurs exit, so rumours of his potential exit were likely unfounded. Lamela has now started the season in brilliant form for Tottenham and will be hoping to help arrest their three-game slump against Brighton this weekend. He played well in their loss to Inter in midweek and will likely retain his place in the starting XI against the Seagulls as Pochettino looks to turn his fortunes around after three losses in a row.
