Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season against Watford on Sunday, as the hosts secured a come-from-behind 2-1 victory.
Despite their poor performance, one player who stood out for Spurs was Toby Alderweireld, who has been welcomed back into the team by Pochettino having dropped out of the side for much of last year’s campaign.
He maintained his fine form to start the season against the Hornets, and Tottenham supporters enjoyed his classy display immensely.

Is Ed Woodward blind? Alderweireld purring commandingly like a Rolls Royce Phantom in defense and pinging 70 yarders like Xabi Alonso

Toby Alderweireld’s passing range is probably the best I’ve ever witnessed of any defender to play for Tottenham Hotspur.#THFC #COYS

So glad Toby’s back in the side, if only for the reemergence of the Alderweireld-Alli long passing combination

Not many things in life give me more pleasure than seeing a Toby Alderweireld 60 yard cross field pass

OPINION
Tottenham fan’s reaction to Alderweireld’s performance is perfectly understandable. The Belgian is a world class centre half, one of the very best in the Premier League. His passing, as one Tottenham supporter referenced, is second to none amongst centre halves in world football. His Spurs turnaround, after seemingly being on his way out of the club this summer, has been truly remarkable. It makes you wonder just why Pochettino dropped him in the first place. Tottenham fans are rightly ecstatic that he’s back in the starting line up, despite the negative result for the team. The 29-year-old is an outstanding defender who performed terrifically in Belgium’s run to a World Cup semi-final this summer, and Spurs are now reaping the benefits of having him back in the team this season. He looks set to have a fantastic campaign under Pochettino, and Tottenham supporters are clearly excited to have him in the fold once again.
