A number of Tottenham fans were left in awe at the talents of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga after he helped the side to a 2-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon (29 September).
The 26-year-old has been pushed into the first team as a result of injuries to first and second choice shot stoppers Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm, making just his third Premier League appearance for the Lilywhites.
The game was won courtesy of a Harry Kane brace but the giant keeper played his part by keeping the Terriers at bay, and his performance left many Spurs supporters raving about him on Twitter.
This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the fans’ tweets:
I think Gazzaniga is the real deal and should have been first option in Lloris’s absence, had a blinder today #COYS

Giving Poch a headache! I am sure when Lloris is fit he will be straight back in but Gazzaniga has surely done enough to ensure he is now our No. 2 over Vorm! #THFC https://t.co/6P8LRYX5NN

We were far from our best today but Moura and Rose looked really good.
Gazzaniga has established himself as our no.2 now. Great performance by him today.
Need to do much better against Barca though collectively.#COYS— Harry C ? (@HazSpur92) September 29, 2018
Gazzaniga with another motm, honestly wouldn’t mind him replacing Hugo in the long run if he keeps improving

Gazzaniga has done exceptionally well & gave arguably another MOTM performance today. His distribution with his feet will improve as he gains confidence & playing time. Vorms weakness are the basics of goalkeeping,Gazzaniga has proved he's capable of being an understudy to Lloris

Another class game from Gazzaniga, it’s honestly mad how he seems to be up for motm or win in most game he starts

Gazzaniga is actually a lot better stopping the opposition attempts going into our goal. Therefore he a better goalkeeper than Vorm. (Not even mentioning coming for crosses, command of the area, shot stopping, decision making, etc…)

Opinion
Gazzaniga has really been thrown in the deep end by Mauricio Pochettino – not through any choice, it must be said – but he has thrived in the first team and become a real asset to the side. He might not be the proven talent that Lloris is or have the experience of Vorm, but as a natural shot stopper who keeps the opposition from netting, he is worthy of his place in the squad. What happens when the other two do eventually return to action? Well the French international is almost certain to retain his place but will the Argentine keeper have done enough to usurp his Dutch counterpart to become the first choice understudy and sit on the bench as support for the starting XI? The fans certainly seem to think so on social media, and considering Vorm has had some questionable performances in recent years, it seems as though a new number two has emerged.
