Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a huge double injury blow for their clash against Liverpool this weekend, with key first-team duo Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli ruled out.

As reported on the club’s official Twitter account, Lloris is set for several weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury which he suffered in their 3-0 win over Manchester United earlier this season.

Attacking midfielder Alli is also set to miss the Reds clash, with the England star having suffered a hamstring issue which will keep him sidelined for the weekend.

It is added that Moussa Sissoko is set to return to training next week, with Juan Foyth having returned last week after his own injury issues.

OPINION

This is a massive blow for Spurs as they prepare to welcome the Reds to Wembley on Saturday. With regards to Lloris, it was hoped that the France international would be fit after the international break, but that is obviously not the case. The fact that he will be out for several weeks is a huge worry, with Michel Vorm now having to step up into the number one position for an extended period. This is a good chance for Vorm to prove himself for Tottenham, and they will be hoping that the Dutchman rises to the challenge. With regards to Alli, this is a monumental blow for Spurs. The creative midfielder always plays well against the big sides, and they will now need Christian Eriksen to step up and convert his form for Denmark to club level. It will also mean someone else needs to come into the side, and that will likely be Erik Lamela considering Son Heung-min’s intense international schedule with South Korea.
