Former England international and broadcast pundit Matt Le Tissier has said that he has never seen Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino under as much pressure as he is now during his six year stint in England.

The Lilywhites’ boss arrived at White Hart Lane back in 2014, joining from Southampton where he had been for 18 months, and has become a firm favourite among the fanbase for his work in taking the club to the next level, establishing themselves as top four regulars and pushing for success on both the domestic and European stage.

However, after seeing Spurs lose to Liverpool over the weekend, Le Tissier, speaking on Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (18/09), said that the Argentine looked “rattled” and that the pressure is starting to build.

He said: “This is the first time since he’s been in this country where I’ve seen him a little bit rattled…. He’s just starting to show the first signs of a little bit of pressure.”

Opinion

There is no reason for the Spurs faithful to panic just yet but it does seem as though the expectations placed on Tottenham are starting to weigh heavily on the manager’s shoulders. He has Premier League success to push towards as well as improving in the Champions League, and things have got off to a rocky start domestically, so he will be hoping to turn things around against Inter Milan on Tuesday. Losing to Liverpool will have been a heavy blow to take and the fact that the club were unable to make a single new signing will still be gnawing away at the back of his mind. Could this be the beginning of the end for Pochettino? You sense he would not be satisfied leaving the club until he has a piece of silverware to his name, but securing that is easier said than done. This could be the season which defines not only his, but the whole club’s future.
