Vincent Janssen has been completely frozen out at Tottenham by Mauricio Pochettino, according to a reliable journalist.

In a Twitter exchange with a Spurs fan, freelance Tottenham correspondent Ben Pearce was asked to find out from Pochettino the latest on the injured Janssen, who is sidelined with a foot problem, ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup clash against Watford.

Pearce explained on his personal social media account that Jansson would not be in contention to feature for the north Londoners “even if he was fit” as he’s “just not in the picture”.

OPINION

Pearce’s update strongly suggests the writing’s on the wall at Tottenham for Janssen, injury or no injury. Speculation mounted surrounding the striker’s Spurs future after he was stripped of the No 9 shirt this summer and listed on the club’s official website without a squad number. He subsequently underwent foot surgery, which only partly explained what appeared, on the face of it, to be a humiliation. While we do not know what has gone on behind the scenes at the club, or how much Janssen has tested the patience of Pochettino and his coaching staff, it would be a major shock if he ever played for Spurs again. The 24-year-old’s face does not fit and the manager doesn’t want him. The difficulty for the club is Janssen had a mediocre loan spell at Fenerbahce in 2017-18 and cost £18million two years ago. Finding a club willing to pay anywhere near that price could be well nigh on impossible.
