Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Pascal Gross has been ruled out of his team’s Premier League clash against Tottenham tomorrow (Saturday) at Wembley, it has been confirmed.

Seagulls manager Chris Hughton revealed at his media conference today, as quoted by the official Brighton website, that the German playmaker is absent for a second consecutive match with an ankle problem.

Gross had been an ever-present in the Brighton across all competitions so far this season up until the 2-2 draw against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Monday night.

“The only one still out is Pascal [Gross],” Hughton said. “The good news is that the other players have trained.

“[Florin] Andone has played 45 minutes [for under-23s v West Ham United], and [Jose] Izquierdo is training at the moment. We have no other injuries.”

Gross’ absence will certainly come as a boost for Spurs and manager Mauricio Pochettino as they look to get back to winning ways following a wretched spell of three consecutive defeats. The midfielder is Brighton’s creative spark, assist king and one of their most reliable goalscorers. He was outstanding last season after joining from German club FC Ingolstadt for a bargain fee, registering seven goals and eight assists from 38 Premier League matches. He also has a goal to his name against Manchester United already this term, and it is little wonder he has been one of the first names on the Brighton team sheet during their spell in the Premier League. His absence deprives the visitors of a key man and also the main supply line to top scorer Glenn Murray. If Spurs can keep Murray quiet, they will go a long way to securing a much-needed win.
