Southampton conceded an injury time penalty to draw 2-2 with Brighton at home on Monday night, and many fans have taken to Twitter to slam the performance of striker Shane Long.
A screamer from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg opened the scoring before Danny Ings won and scored a penalty, but Shane Duffy gave Brighton hope with a header before an injury time spot-kick from Glenn Murray saw the points shared.

I really do feel for Long, he does try his hardest but he’s in a rut. Just walking off there and you could tell he was gutted.. #saintsfc

OPINION
These Southampton fans are obviously unimpressed by Long’s display against the Seagulls, and you can see why. As usual the Republic of Ireland international worked hard up front for the Saints, but failed to really do much else. His pace is always an asset but he did not get in a position to really use it on Monday, and he never really looked like scoring. You could really see that he was desperate to do so, and with just two goals in 44 Premier League appearances you can see why, but it just was not going to happen against the Seagulls. Some of the criticism levelled at him here is to do with his efforts to defend during the Brighton goal, but you can hardly blame him for that. For some unknown reason he was left to mark Shane Duffy, who towers over him, and he stood no chance when the ball was put in the right area for the header.
