West Ham United winger Xande Silva has suffered a major injury blow with the Portuguese youngster set for at least six weeks on the sidelines, according to football.london

The regional football news outlet report that the 21-year-old speed demon sustained a serious hamstring injury while training with the first-team under Manuel Pellegrini.

Football.london claim that Silva is now set for more than a month on the treatment table after this unfortunate blow, with the starlet having impressed Pellegrini with his performances for the Under-23s.

OPINION

This is a really devastating blow for Silva and West Ham, with the young speed demon hoping to earn promotion to the first-team set-up soon. His performances for the club’s development side, which have seen him net extremely regularly, saw him handed the chance to train with the first-team by Pellegrini. However, that decision was short-lived after this injury blow, and he will now have to start again after recovering from this hamstring complaint. Many West Ham fans were hoping that he was in line for a chance against Chelsea tomorrow after he was left out of the Under-23 side on Saturday, but now the truth has been revealed. It is an unfortunately timed setback for Silva, who would definitely have been handed an opportunity in the coming weeks, but he will no doubt be given that chance at some point this season. Focus must now be on recovery, and then thoughts can turn back to the first-team afterwards.
