BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has hailed Danny Rose as an “outstanding performer” after his display for Tottenham in their weekend win against Brighton.

The England international was restored to the starting XI by manager Mauricio Pochettino and played a key role in the side’s 2-1 triumph against Brighton at Wembley.

Former Tottenham striker Crooks was delighted to see the left-back deliver the goods after extensive speculation over his future in the last year.

“Just when I was starting to get concerned, Spurs stop the rot and pull a win out of the bag. Danny Rose has also stopped this talk about leaving the club and started looking like a full-back with purpose again,” Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column as he named Rose in his team of the week.

“When he is on his game this lad is an outstanding performer, and against Brighton he produced the perfect ball for Erik Lamela to smash home the winner.”

OPINION

This was the performance from Rose that Tottenham fans have been waiting an eternity for. The left-back had begun the season slowly after form, fitness and future issues had cast a major shadow over his Spurs career. He struggled to win back his starting place last season after nine months out with a knee injury and there was intense speculation he was heading for the exit door over the summer. Rose admitted it required extensive talks with Mauricio Pochettino to keep him at the club and get him back on board amid talk over a move overseas, possibly even on loan, before the transfer window shut last month. What is certain is that Rose is a fine full-back who is the best option Pochettino has on the left flank when he is fit and firing. Finally, there are signs the player can recapture his outstanding form of 2015 and 2016, when he was one of the best around.
