Kevin Keegan has claimed he would love to be managed by Jurgen Klopp but suggested the Liverpool manager’s passion could overspill on the touchline one day.

The former England manager and all-time playing great is a big admirer of the German and sees much of himself in how Klopp behaves in the technical area.

But he warned Klopp could do something crazy and even tackle one of the players on the pitch if he doesn’t calm down.

Asked who he would most like to be managed by if he was playing today, Keegan told the Guardian: “I’d have to go for [Jürgen] Klopp because he’s like me.  He is going to tackle someone one day.

“I was very close to it [too]. When someone was breaking away and it was near the touchline, and I was stood there, I was very close one day to bringing him down. I really was.”

OPINION

Those who have played for Klopp claim it’s his fire, passion and shrewd man-management that makes him so special. The Liverpool boss knows how to make players feel appreciated and get the best out of them. That was Keegan’s big thing when he was a manager, too. Players felt like a million dollars when they ran out on the pitch after being bigged up by the former Liverpool and England striker. Could Klopp do something nuts like tackle one of the players close to the touchline one day? If anyone is going to, it could be the Anfield tactician. He has admitted in the past he gets over-excited during matches and says things he shouldn’t, to opposition coaches as well as the officials running matches. It provides for great theatre, though. Television directors get plenty of value from keeping a camera on the Liverpool manager, whose celebrations can be worth the subscription alone.
