Manchester United right back Diogo Dalot has revealed that the presence of manager Jose Mourinho was a big factor in his move to the club.

The 19-year-old arrived from Porto for £19million this summer, and while he hasn’t yet made his debut due to knee surgery, the Portuguese is excited to be at the club.

“I heard at the end of the season I might have the opportunity to come here and it was a dream come true,” he told ESPN. “The choice was obvious. This is one of the greatest clubs ever. I’m looking forward to playing and helping to get the club to the highest level possible.”

When asked about Mourinho, Dalot replied: “His history talks for itself. He’s a great manager, one of the greatest managers ever. Of course it helps, the communication helps too.”

OPINION

While not everyone likes him, there’s no denying the success that Mourinho has had in his career. His achievements at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid were superb, while he has brought trophies back to Old Trafford since his appointment. It’s no surprise that Dalot is keen to work under his countryman, and Mourinho clearly rates him extremely highly after referring to him as the best young full back in Europe upon signing him. United’s tough start to the season has taken the gloss off Mourinho a bit, but he remains a world class manager and one that plenty of players want to play for. United supporters will be keen to see Dalot in first team action soon, as they need all the help they can get at the back. If the former Porto man can emerge as a key player for the club then the £19million spent on him will prove to be money very well spent.
