Manchester City have swept aside Tottenham to secure the services of young goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu despite multiple bids from the Londoners, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper reports on their website that City have paid a fee of around £420,000 in order to land the services of the 16-year-old, which is a record for any non-professional player in Ireland.

The young ace had a number of offers from Spurs and also paid a visit to Chelsea when making up his mind as to where his next destination will be, but it looks like he has agreed to join the club next summer.

The six foot [Transfermarkt] shot-stopper also attracted the likes of Liverpool and Celtic before deciding to join forces with the current Premier League champions.

OPINION

City have done well to sweep aside the likes of Tottenham to convince the youngster to join forces with them, but it remain to be seen where he will fit in once his move is confirmed. He will not take up the role of third choice keeper just yet as that is already filled by Arijanet Muric, so it is likely he will move out on loan in order to get some regular playing time. This will also help his progress, and soon enough, he can move up the ranks within the club. He has the potential to be a great goalkeeper – especially if a number of high-profile clubs were after him – so City should count themselves lucky that he chose them. Bazunu may only be young, but signing for a club like Manchester City is only going to help him improve quickly. He has a great future ahead of him, and fingers crossed City make the most of Bazunu’s potential.
