Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is being lined up by Barcelona amid uncertainty about his future at Old Trafford, according to The Sun

The newspaper claim that Barcelona will look to attract the 29-year-old to the Nou Camp after failing to sign him over the summer, with Herrera yet to pen an extension with United despite his contract running out next summer.

The Sun report that the Spain international is keen to remain at the club but is growing frustrated by the lack of urgency among bosses in attempting to agree a new deal.

It is said that the two parties have held talks over a two-year deal, but nothing has been agreed as of yet, and Barca will now look to take full advantage with Herrera free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs in January.

OPINION

This seems a strange situation at Old Trafford. It is clear that Herrera wants to remain with the Red Devils beyond the end of his current contract, and it would seem that the club feel the same way. Despite talks having been held between the two parties, there does not look to be much movement at all towards a new deal being agreed. No wonder Herrera is becoming frustrated. He will want his future to be sorted out as quickly as possible, and this impasse will be making him think twice about his future at the club. Barcelona are a tough club to turn down, especially for a Spanish player, and United must be careful if they do want a Herrera stay. If they delay proceedings much longer it could get to January and Herrera may turn around and sign a pre-contract deal with the Catalan giants. For everyone’s peace of mind this is a deal which must be agreed sooner rather than later, which will also prevent any twists occurring in the near future.
