Everton striker Fraser Hornby has admitted that he is open to a loan move away from the club after his impressive performance for the Scotland Under-21 side on Thursday.

The 18-year-old ace netted a hat-trick for the youth side against their Andorra counterparts, but the young ace claimed he is open to moving away from Goodison Park on a temporary basis if he does not get a few appearances in for the senior team.

The youngster’s current contract with the Toffees expires in three years’ time in the summer of 2021, and he currently stars for the under-23 side at Everton.

“Hopefully I can get a few appearances for the first team at Everton, if not then I’ll be happy to go out on loan somewhere,” he told Capital City Press.

“I’ve not really had a chat with anyone about my future at Everton, I’ve kept my head down and I’m taking each day as it comes and working hard. I’m feeling good and hopefully I can get a few chances in the first team.”

OPINION

Given that Hornby is only 18 years of age, it would be very surprising to see him star for the first team any time soon. That is not to say that he is not a great talent, he is – just not yet. It would be too soon to make his bow for the senior team in the Premier League, as it would just be too much of a step up for him. If he gets the required experienced playing for a first team in either the Championship or League One, then he is sure to be a contender for a spot in the starting 11 upon his return. Until then, he should not get his hopes up too quickly for a first team shot. In a few years’ time, he definitely has the potential to be an excellent striker – he just needs that experience under his belt first. He should look out for some loan opportinities in the January transfer window, where he is sure to make his mark wherever he ends up.
