Everton need to turn their fortunes around – and fast – otherwise a top eight finish in the Premier League will seem like a distant memory come the end of the season.
It has been well documented that the Toffees are lacking the reinforcements up front, and this cannot continue for much longer, as Marco Silva’s job will most definitely be at risk.
The players need to step up a gear, especially in the case of striker Cenk Tosun.
He is not up to Premier League standard – plain and simple – and for that reason alone, he does not warrant a spot in the first team.
At the moment, he is keeping any genuine young talent from making their mark, particularly Fraser Hornby, who has been impressing for the under-23s this season.
If anybody deserves to be playing at senior level in the top flight, it is the 19-year-old – even at such a young age, the young ace possesses all the attributes that Tosun currently does not.
The fact that the Turkish attacker has continued to be used is laughable – if Silva wants to address the issues up front, then keeping him in the team is not the way to go about it.
He needs to wake up and cut their losses, bite the bullet and offload Tosun in January, as he is just not worth Silva’s time anymore.
Giving a chance to a player like Hornby is the ideal solution – he is eager, sprightly and full of energy, which is just what Everton need at the moment.
Yes, they have been boosted by the fact that Richarlison is back from his suspension, but they obviously cannot pin all of their goal scoring hopes on him – and that is where Hornby comes in.
Silva will feel the wrath of the Everton faithful if he continues to opt for Tosun – and that is the last thing he would want considering that this is his first season as manager of the Toffees.
Replacing the 6ft [Transfermarkt] player with Hornby will maintain the trust of the supporters as well as helping to get Everton’s season back on track – so it’s a no brainer really.
