Stan Collymore has issued a two-word Twitter verdict on what needs to happen at Newcastle United – ‘Ashley out’.

When asked in a Twitter Q&A about his thoughts on the Magpies and whether things needed to change, the outspoken pundit called for unpopular owner Mike Ashley to end his reign at the club.

Collymore clearly feels that in order for things to improve at St James’ Park, the Sports Direct Tycoon must quit and sell up as soon as possible.

OPINION

It does not come as a surprise that Collymore is in favour of wanting Ashley out of Newcastle. He joins many people calling for him to leave the club, with fans in particular calling for his demise in order for things to get better. They obviously feel that if Ashley carries on the way that he is, boss Rafa Benitez will have no choice but to leave Tyneside at the end of the season. This is one of the things that they must fear most – so they will undoubtedly like Collymore’s simple two word response about what should be happening at the club. It remains to be see whether Ashley will depart the club, so supporters have obviously got their fingers crossed that a buyer comes along sooner rather than later and save them from the mess that they are currently in. However, Benitez must not let this negativity surrounding the club filter through onto the pitch, where they are currently struggling with just one point on the board so far.
