Chelsea face a fierce battle with the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli for the signature of Fiorentina striker Federico Chiesa, according to Tutto Sport [as relayed by Calcio Mercato].

The Italian newspaper’s print edition (Thursday, 6th September) reports that the Blues are keen to plot a swoop for the 20-year-old attacker in the January transfer window, but will face competition from the Italian trio to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

The young ace has netted six goals in 38 appearances for the Serie A outfit, but was only promoted to Fiorentina’s first team in 2016.

The youngster made his debut for Italy in March this year, and has since made five appearances.

Good move for Chelsea?

Yes, it would be a good move for Chelsea, although Chiesa has not really proven that he is the most prolific of strikers based on his goal tally for last season.

However, the Blues could do with more firepower in their front line – and the addition of a player who is known for being fast, skilful and technically gifted would be a very welcome addition to the team.

He would only improve with age, and this is something that Chelsea must take advantage of.

Likely to happen?

It remains to be seen whether this potential move would materialise in January. The Blues face some serious competition for Chiesa’s signature from three other Italian clubs.

He may favour a move to one of them over Chelsea, as it means he would not have to move abroad just yet.

Nevertheless, do not count Chelsea out any time soon, as they are more than capable of making an offer that any player could not refuse.
