BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has slammed the “spine-chilling’ antics of Alexandre Lacazette during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

The former Tottenham striker was distinctly unimpressed by how the French striker celebrated his goal after putting the Gunners ahead with a curling finish at the 56-minute mark.

“In the end, one goal was enough to win the game against Everton, and when you score a superb goal like Alexandre Lacazette’s one for Arsenal, you are entitled to celebrate,” wrote Crooks in his BBC Sport column as he named the striker in his team of the week.

“What I don’t get is the appalling disco jig that follows. Why spoil such a wonderful finish with such a spine-chilling dance? What’s wrong with punching the air or running to the crowd?”

OPINION

Come on, Garth. Spine-chilling? Really? Lacazette busted a few dance moves after producing an outstanding finish to break the deadlock at Emirates Stadium on Saturday. It was hardly frightening or scary. Indeed, the majority of the 60,000 fans crammed into the ground would not have cared a jot how the Frenchman celebrated his wonderfully taken goal. They will think he is entitled to celebrate how he wants if he continues to combine so effectively with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who double Arsenal’s advantage shortly afterwards with a strike that replays subsequently showed should have been chalked off for offside. Nevertheless, Lacazette and Aubameyang are starting to form a potent partnership. They have both scored in three of the past five Premier League games they have started together, while only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, with 16, has scored more than the Gabon striker’s 12 league goals since his Gunners debut in February.
