A section of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to calls for Lucas Torreira to be promoted to the starting XI after the international break.
The Uruguay international has had to settle for four substitute displays since joining in the summer after being overlooked in favour of Unai Emery’s favoured central midfield pairing of Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi.
But many Arsenal supporters want Torreira, 22, promoted to the starting line-up after his cameo in Sunday’s 3-2 Premier League win against Cardiff City.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets below.
COMMENTARY:
There is plenty of love for Torreira on social media from the Gooner faithful after he helped turn the clash in Wales in Arsenal’s favour after being introduced from the bench with 20 minutes remaining as a replacement for Guendouzi. The young Frenchman has started all four of Arsenal’s matches under Emery after surprisingly getting the nod ahead of the Uruguayan, who is three years his senior and arrived with a price tag worth £17million more. Surely, it is only a matter of time before Torreira, who combines grit with guile, is handed a regular starting role. He has looked decent in all of his substitute displays so far, and the first match after the international break against Newcastle on 15 September appears the ideal time to pair him with Xhaka. The Switzerland international divides Arsenal supporters like no player since Theo Walcott, but his composure is much needed and Emery knows he doesn’t need two pitbulls in the central acres.

Looking back at the game and Torreira is not only a little pitbull in that midfield but his passing is excellent, always looking to go forward and do it quickly as well, what a player we have on our hands #afc

If that was a top team, we would have been thrashed!
What is the point of buying Torreira and Leno, if you're going to keep them on the bench.#MOTD2 #AFC— Vexed Old Man (@VexedOldMan) September 2, 2018
Win today, good. How Cech and Xhaka are keeping their places though is beyond me.Cech, i just don't trust not to screw up and considering we spent near 30m on Leno,he must be thinking, what do i have to do.Torreira needs to start,Xhaka, just not on it at the mo. #CARARS #motd2 #AFC

I can’t remember the last time I shouted at the TV so much this afternoon in happiness. Torreira was an animal in midfield showing the world exactly what he can do in 20 mins. The lion roared, stats proved it all. This boy will soon be my favorite @LTorreira34 #AFC #LT11

Laca played so well today fully deserved his MOTM, his partnership with Auba is looking dangerous they have to start together. Would like to see Leno and Torreira start over Xhaka and Cech though… #AFC
