BBC Sportsound pundit has blasted Celtic attacker Ryan Christie for diving against Rangers on Sunday.

Christie, 23, was introduced to the action in the second-half, and was involved in a moment of controversy when he went down on the edge of the away side’s penalty box after minimal contact by Gers defender Connor Goldson, who was booked by referee Willie Collum.

Former Hibernian player McManus was less than pleased with Christie, and also claimed that Collum was in the wrong to award Celtic a free-kick after the Scotland international’s simulation.

“Shocking dive from Christie. Collum having one,” said McManus on his personal Twitter account on Sunday.

OPINION

It was definitely a dive by Christie. Goldson had his arm out, but he barely touched Christie and the Celtic attacker flung himself into the Rangers penalty area in a bid to win a penalty. Collum was completely wrong to book the Gers centre-back as he should have booked Christie. It was embarrassing and not something that should be associated with Celtic. If he had been booked by Collum, Brendan Rodgers would undoubtedly be having words with Christie, but the fact that he got away with it means that he will probably try it again in the future and it could have a massive impact on games. It is about time that retrospective action comes in for incidents like this and players should be fined by the Scottish Football Association or threatened with a one-match ban if they do it again. There’s no place for it in the game and while there are bound to be Celtic fans who are sticking up for their player, they wouldn’t be doing it the other way around if it was a Rangers player.
