John McGlynn has quit his role as a scout at Celtic and has agreed to join Raith Rovers as their new manager.

The Scottish League One club confirmed via their official website on Tuesday that the 56-year-old has signed a deal that lasts until the end of next season, bringing to an end almost four years of his senior role at Celtic Park.

McGlynn has managed Raith previously when he was in charge atĀ Starks’ Park between 2006 and 2012.

OPINION

McGlynn is going to have one big job ahead of him in Kirkclady as Raith Rovers aim for promotion to the Scottish Championship. The Rovers finished second by one point to Ayr United last season but missed out on promotion in the play-offs, so the club will be wanting an improvement on that over the course of this season. So far it has been a good start to the new campaign by Raith, who are yet to lose. However the Fife club has drawn too many games and McGlynn will be tasked into turning those one-point gains into maximum three-point hauls. McGlynn’s previous time at the club, his spell at Hearts and his recent connection to Celtic will surely help him out this season and it would not be a shock to see one or two of the Hoops’ young stars to head to Starks’ Park in January on loan deals.
