Rangers legend Ally McCoist was completely blown away by Graham Dorrans when his “sensational” pass almost fed in Scott Arfield to earn the Gers a win against Villarreal.

The Light Blues managed to return home from Spain with a point in the bag after a 2-2 draw, but it could have been more if Arfield had smashed Dorrans’ beautiful pass into the back of the net in stoppage time.

McCoist, who was commentating on the game live on BT Sport on Thursday, was raving about the impact the former West Brom midfielder had off the bench against Villarreal

“Brilliant play from Dorrans,” he said, as shown on BT Sport’s website. “Watch the vision here, with his left foot. that’s a sensational pass.”

OPINION

Dorrans absolutely sliced the home side’s defence open with his pass just as the game entered stoppage time. The Gers had lacked a cutting edge for most of the match and most of their best play came down the wings. But Dorrans offered a completely new output once he came on as his experience and playmaking abilities made a really good chance fro Rangers to win the game. Unfortunately it was midfielder Arfield that the pass was to and his shot was straight at the goalkeeper. If it was centre-forward Kyle Lafferty in the penalty area at that time, then maybe, just maybe, we would be talking about a Rangers win right now. It is good to see Dorrans back to fitness now. He has really struggled with injuries over the last few years and hopefully he can stay fit this term and be a key player for Steven Gerrard.
