Doncaster manager Grant McCann has been “really impressed” with Leeds striker Mallik Wilks.

Wilks is currently on loan with the League One club until January and in a Q&A session, one fan asked what the plans were for Wilks and Liverpool Under-23 player Herbie Kane in January.

McCann responded saying, “We are in close contact with their specific parent clubs and we have been really impressed with the pair of them.”

OPINION

Leeds’ 19-year-old striker is going great guns in League One at the moment. He’s made seven appearances for Doncaster across all competitions and has scored three goals and made one assist. They’re really impressed with him and it sounds like they want to extend his loan past January if possible. That’s good news for Leeds who are well covered with strikers at the moment. A full season in League One – presuming there are no injuries to the current first-team squad – would seem like the best move for Wilks who should be challenging for the senior Leeds team next year. Leeds have an abundance of attacking talent in the Under-23s at the moment, with Jack Clarke and Sam Dalby both doing well. Wilks has made one senior appearance for Leeds, although the 1-0 FA Cup loss to Sutton won’t bring back many happy memories, and he’ll be looking to make a name for himself this season and get on the radar of Marcelo Bielsa.
